Privacy Policy

Your information

How this WordPress publication handles personal information.

This notice covers the Bedroom Science WordPress website and messages sent to its publication contact address. It describes the features currently used on this site. A separate third-party website or service has its own privacy practices.

Who to contact

The publication contact for questions and personal-data requests is Bedroom Science at consult@bedroomscience.com. Use the subject “Privacy request” and include enough information for us to identify the relevant interaction. Please avoid sending sensitive health information.

Information you choose to provide

  • Comments: WordPress stores the information entered in the comment form, such as the comment, name, email address and any optional website address. It also records the IP address and browser user-agent string for administration, security and spam control. Published comments can show the chosen name, comment, website link and avatar. Email addresses and IP addresses are not displayed in the public comment text by WordPress.
  • Email: if you email us, the mailbox receives your email address, the contents of your message and any attachments you send. We use these to handle the inquiry, correction or privacy request.
  • Authorised site accounts: WordPress stores account and profile details for people authorised to manage the publication. Public self-registration is currently disabled.

Public comments can be copied or indexed by other services. Please keep medical records, intimate images, passwords, identity documents and other people’s personal information out of comments and correspondence.

Operational information

Hosting, email and security systems may process technical information such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, timestamps and error or access logs. This supports delivery of the site, investigation of failures, account security and abuse prevention.

Cookies and avatars

WordPress uses cookies for specific features. You can read articles without creating an account.

  • Comment details: if you select the comment form’s save-details option, WordPress can store your name, email address and website in browser cookies for about one year so you do not have to re-enter them.
  • Login: a temporary test cookie checks whether the browser accepts cookies and normally ends when the browser session closes. Login cookies generally last two days, or two weeks when “Remember Me” is selected. Logging out removes the login cookies.
  • Account preferences and editing: screen-preference cookies generally last one year. An article-editing cookie records the edited post ID and generally lasts one day.
  • Security: the hosting or security service may use technical cookies or checks to protect the site against abuse. Blocking necessary cookies can affect protected areas or sign-in.

Comment avatars are enabled. WordPress may send a hashed version of a commenter’s email address to Gravatar and request an avatar image from its servers. An avatar request can also disclose a visitor’s IP address and browser information to that service. See Automattic’s privacy notice.

You can delete or block cookies through your browser and leave the comment save-details option unchecked. Blocking cookies may affect account and comment convenience features.

Links, media and optional services

Following an external link takes you to that provider’s site, where its own privacy notice applies. If an article includes third-party embedded media, loading or interacting with it can send technical information to the provider and allow its cookies or tracking, subject to that service’s controls.

This WordPress site currently has no newsletter sign-up form, advertising tags or visitor analytics integration configured by the publication. If those features are introduced, this notice and the relevant choices will need to reflect them before use.

Service providers and AI-assisted publishing

Information needed to operate the publication can be handled by its hosting and security providers, email provider and authorised site administrators. Providers may operate in countries different from your own; their handling and storage are governed by the applicable service arrangements and privacy notices.

The current editorial workflow uses OpenAI to process article briefs, public source material and publication context for writing, automated checks and some illustrations. It is designed for editorial production, not for sending private reader correspondence or health records to an AI service.

Information may also need to be retained or disclosed to meet a lawful request, protect site security or address legal claims. Publicly submitted comments are visible to other readers when published.

Why we use information

We use information to provide the website, respond to messages, administer comments and accounts, address correction requests, protect against abuse and handle privacy or legal obligations. Where applicable law requires a legal basis, site operation, security and ordinary correspondence are handled on the basis of the publication’s legitimate interests, optional comment-detail cookies use your choice, and necessary legal compliance relies on the relevant legal obligation.

How long information is kept

WordPress comments and their metadata are normally kept indefinitely unless removed. Account information is kept while an authorised account is needed and may be retained afterwards for security or administrative records. Correspondence is kept while needed to handle the matter and any follow-up or dispute. Operational logs and backups follow the relevant provider’s retention cycles; deletion from the active site may not remove a record immediately from every backup.

Your choices and requests

Depending on applicable law, you may be able to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or an export of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Email consult@bedroomscience.com to make a request or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify that a request relates to you before releasing or changing information. Some information may need to remain for legal, security or administrative reasons.

You may also raise a concern with the data-protection authority applicable to your location. You can avoid optional comments and correspondence and use your browser’s cookie controls.

Adults and sensitive information

Bedroom Science is intended for adults. It does not offer a patient portal or seek to collect children’s information or personal medical records. If you believe such information has been submitted, contact us so the matter can be assessed.
